Virginia H. Shutters, 95, of Roanoke, earned her Heavenly Wings on Thursday, December 29, 2022.  To greet “Ginny” were her parents, Stoney C., Sr. and Lelia P. Hunley; daughters, Robin Shutters and Jackie Shutters; granddaughter, Amy Aliff and seven brothers and sisters, Thurna, Margaret, Albert, Harold, Stoney, Jr, Geraldine and Dorothy.

She is survived by her daughters, Rita Enoch and Kathy Shulkcum; sons, David Shutters and Michael Shutters; grandchildren, Jason Gilmore, T.R. Shulkcum, Brandon Shutters, Nathan and Grant Fitzgerald and Cassandra Romano; great grandchildren, Madi Aliff, Eden Shutters, Aiden, Carmella and Kristen Romano Mannesa King; two sons-in-law, Lloyd Enoch and Ted Shulkcum and extended Enoch family members and many nieces, nephews.

Ginny retired from Verizon (formerly Bell Atlantic and C & P Telephone) with 34 years of service. She was a bus aide for Roanoke City Public Schools for 15 years and the Kindergarten children affectionately called her “Grandma”, which she loved.

Ginny had an infectious laugh and would brighten up anyone’s day. She had a heart of gold and would help you in a moment’s notice.

The family wishes to thank Cave Spring Place and Friendship Health and Rehab North for their unwavering care during her illness.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at Oakey’s North Chapel where a funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm with Dr. Ron Marsh officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her daughter, Robin, in Sherwood Memorial Park following the service.
